Terms and Conditions of Use

1. Introduction

Welcome to the World Knowledge Championships (WKC).

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern access to and use of the WKC website, mobile applications, online competitions, digital platforms, television competitions, streaming events, social media activities and all services operated by or on behalf of the World Knowledge Championships.

By registering, accessing or using any WKC services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to be legally bound by these Terms.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the WKC platform.

2. Definitions

For these Terms:

  • "WKC" means the World Knowledge Championships together with its owners, affiliates, subsidiaries, authorised representatives and licensed operators.
  • "Platform" means the WKC website, mobile applications, television competitions, streaming services and associated digital systems.
  • "Player" means any registered or unregistered user participating in WKC activities.
  • "Competition" means any WKC challenge, championship, tournament, quiz or event.
  • "Content" includes questions, answers, graphics, logos, software, videos, databases, rankings, certificates and all intellectual property displayed on the Platform.

3. Eligibility

Players must:

  • comply with the laws applicable in their jurisdiction;
  • provide accurate registration information;
  • use only one verified account unless expressly authorised;
  • comply with these Terms at all times.

Players under the applicable age of majority in their country must obtain parental or legal guardian consent before participating where required by law.

4. Player Accounts

Players are responsible for:

  • maintaining the confidentiality of login credentials;
  • safeguarding passwords;
  • ensuring all information remains accurate;
  • notifying WKC immediately of unauthorised account use.

WKC reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts containing false, misleading or fraudulent information.

5. Fair Play

All competitions must be conducted honestly. Players must not:

  • cheat;
  • impersonate another person;
  • use automated software or bots;
  • use multiple accounts;
  • manipulate rankings;
  • interfere with WKC systems;
  • exploit software vulnerabilities;
  • collude with other players.
  • disqualification;
  • score cancellation;
  • suspension;
  • permanent account termination;
  • withdrawal of titles, medals or certificates.

Any attempt to gain an unfair advantage may result in:

6. Competition Rules

All official competitions shall be governed by:

  • WKC Editorial Standards;
  • WKC Competition Rules;
  • WKC Scoring Rules;
  • WKC Classification Standards;
  • additional rules published for specific competitions.

Where competition-specific rules differ from these Terms, the competition rules shall prevail for that event.

7. Scoring

Unless otherwise stated:

  • each official challenge consists of 25 questions;
  • each correct answer scores four marks;
  • the maximum score is 100 marks.

WKC reserves the right to introduce different formats for special competitions provided such formats are published in advance.

8. Rankings

Rankings are generated using criteria established by WKC.

Rankings may include:

  • national;
  • continental;
  • world;
  • age-group;
  • subject;
  • championship;
  • seasonal;
  • all-time rankings.

Rankings may change as new results are recorded.

9. Certificates, Badges and Titles

Certificates, digital badges, medals, trophies, rankings and championship titles remain subject to verification.

WKC may revoke any recognition obtained through:

  • fraud;
  • cheating;
  • technical manipulation;
  • administrative error;
  • breach of these Terms.

10. Prizes

Prize details shall be published separately for each competition.

WKC reserves the right to:

  • verify eligibility;
  • request proof of identity;
  • withhold prizes pending investigation;
  • substitute prizes where necessary;
  • cancel prizes obtained improperly.

Players are responsible for any taxes arising under the laws of their jurisdiction.

11. Intellectual Property

All WKC intellectual property remains the exclusive property of WKC unless otherwise stated.

This includes:

  • trademarks;
  • logos;
  • questions;
  • databases;
  • software;
  • graphics;
  • videos;
  • rankings;
  • certificates;
  • publications;
  • educational materials.

No content may be copied, reproduced, distributed, translated, sold or modified without prior written permission.

12. User Content

Where players upload content, including comments, photographs or videos, they grant WKC a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use such content for operating and promoting WKC.

Players warrant that they own or have permission to use any content submitted.

13. Privacy

WKC processes personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy.

By using WKC, players consent to the collection and processing of personal data necessary for:

  • registration;
  • competition administration;
  • rankings;
  • certificates;
  • fraud prevention;
  • customer support;
  • legal compliance.

14. International Participation

WKC welcomes participants from all countries where participation is lawful.

Players are responsible for ensuring that participation complies with the laws applicable in their jurisdiction.

WKC does not guarantee that all competitions or prizes are available in every country.

15. Television and Media Rights

By participating in WKC events, players agree that WKC may record, photograph, broadcast and publish their participation for educational, promotional, archival and commercial purposes, subject to applicable law.

Where required by law, additional consent forms may be requested.

16. Code of Conduct

Players shall:

  • respect other participants;
  • avoid abusive language;
  • avoid discrimination;
  • avoid harassment;
  • comply with moderator instructions;
  • protect the integrity of competitions.

WKC may remove any participant engaging in inappropriate behaviour.

17. Account Suspension

WKC may suspend or terminate accounts for:

  • breach of these Terms;
  • suspected fraud;
  • security concerns;
  • prolonged inactivity;
  • legal obligations;
  • misuse of the Platform.

18. Disclaimers

While WKC seeks to maintain accurate information and reliable systems, it does not guarantee uninterrupted operation.

Technical failures, internet interruptions, software issues or events beyond WKC's reasonable control may affect participation.

WKC reserves the right to postpone, cancel or modify competitions where necessary.

19. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, WKC shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential or special losses arising from use of the Platform.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability where such exclusion is prohibited by law.

20. Force Majeure

WKC shall not be responsible for delays or failures resulting from events beyond its reasonable control, including:

  • pandemics;
  • internet failures;
  • government restrictions;
  • power outages;

23. Dispute Resolution

WKC encourages disputes to be resolved amicably through its internal complaints procedure.

If unresolved, disputes shall be handled in accordance with the dispute resolution mechanism specified by WKC and any applicable law.

Nothing in these Terms restricts statutory rights that cannot legally be excluded.

24. Termination

Players may close their accounts at any time.

Termination does not affect obligations accrued before termination.

Certain provisions, including intellectual property, limitation of liability and dispute resolution, shall survive termination.

Competition Rules & Regulations

1. Purpose

The World Knowledge Championships (WKC) is an international knowledge competition designed to promote learning, intellectual excellence and fair competition among participants from around the world.

These Competition Rules & Regulations govern the conduct of all official WKC competitions, including online, live, televised and partner-hosted events. By participating in any WKC competition, players agree to comply with these Rules and Regulations.

2. Championship Categories

WKC organises competitions under the following categories:

  • National Championships
  • Continental Championships
  • World Championships
  • Tailor-Made Championships
  • Subject/Specialized Championships

Additional competition categories may be introduced by WKC from time to time.

3. Eligibility

Participation in WKC competitions is open to individuals who:

  • Meet the eligibility requirements published for the relevant competition.
  • Register with accurate and complete information.
  • Comply with these Rules & Regulations and the WKC Terms & Conditions.
  • Observe the WKC Code of Conduct & Fair Play Policy.

Where required by law, participants below the age of majority must obtain the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

4. Competition Format

Unless otherwise announced, official WKC competitions are conducted using the following standard format:

  • Each challenge consists of 25 multiple-choice questions.
  • Each question carries 4 marks, giving a maximum possible score of 100 marks.
  • Questions are presented electronically through the WKC Platform or by another approved method.
  • Participants must submit their answers within the time allocated for the competition.

WKC may introduce alternative formats for special events, provided that such formats are announced before the competition begins.

5. Scoring and Classification

Scores are calculated based on the number of correct answers submitted within the competition rules.

Official WKC classifications are:

0–24 Explorer
25–39 Learner
40–54 Knowledge Builder
55–69 Scholar
70–80 Expert
81–89 Master
90–100 Grand Master

Additional honours, including Super Grand Master, may be awarded in accordance with official WKC qualification criteria.

6. Rankings and Progression

Eligible participants may be ranked at:

  • National level
  • Continental level
  • Global level
  • Subject or specialised level
  • Seasonal or all-time leaderboards

Depending on the competition format, successful participants may qualify for higher levels of competition, including National, Continental or World Championships.

7. Fair Competition

All participants are expected to compete honestly and independently.

The following activities are strictly prohibited:

  • Cheating or receiving unauthorised assistance.
  • Using multiple accounts.
  • Impersonating another person.
  • Using automated software, bots or scripts.
  • Attempting to manipulate scores or rankings.
  • Interfering with the operation or security of the WKC Platform.

Any participant found to have breached these Rules may be disqualified or subjected to disciplinary action.

8. Awards and Recognition

WKC may recognise participants through:

  • Rankings
  • Digital badges
  • Certificates
  • Medals
  • Trophies
  • Championship titles
  • Hall of Fame recognition
  • Other awards announced for specific competitions

Awards remain subject to verification and may be withdrawn if obtained through fraud, cheating or administrative error.

9. Appeals

Participants who believe that a competition has been affected by a technical issue, administrative error or exceptional circumstance may submit an appeal using the procedure published by WKC.

Appeals must be lodged within the period specified for the relevant competition.

The decision of WKC following the completion of the appeals process shall be final.

10. Competition Changes

WKC reserves the right to:

  • postpone or reschedule competitions;
  • modify competition formats;
  • cancel events where necessary;
  • substitute prizes;
  • amend qualification requirements;
  • make reasonable operational changes to ensure fairness and integrity.

Where practicable, participants will be notified of significant changes in advance.

11. Interpretation

These Competition Rules & Regulations shall be read together with the:

  • WKC Terms & Conditions;

  • WKC Code of Conduct & Fair Play Policy.

In the event of any inconsistency, WKC shall determine the appropriate interpretation in accordance with the objectives of fairness, transparency and the integrity of the competition.

The latest version will be published on the official WKC website, and continued participation in WKC competitions constitutes acceptance of the revised Rules.

4. Fair Play Principles

Participants must rely solely on their own knowledge and ability unless a competition expressly permits the use of reference materials or other resources.

All players should respect both the spirit and the letter of the competition rules.

5. Prohibited Conduct

The following conduct is strictly prohibited:

  • Cheating in any form.
  • Receiving unauthorised assistance during a competition.
  • Sharing answers during live competitions.
  • Using multiple accounts.
  • Impersonating another individual.
  • Providing false identity or registration details.
  • Attempting to manipulate scores or rankings.
  • Accessing restricted systems or competition content without authorisation.
  • Exploiting software vulnerabilities or technical faults.
  • Disrupting competitions or interfering with other participants.
  • Harassing, threatening or intimidating others.
  • Posting abusive, offensive, discriminatory or unlawful content.

6. Artificial Intelligence and External Assistance

Unless expressly permitted for a particular competition, participants must not use artificial intelligence tools, automated software, bots or other external assistance to answer competition questions or gain an unfair advantage.

WKC reserves the right to investigate suspected misuse of technology and to take appropriate disciplinary action where breaches are identified.

7. Identity and Account Integrity

Each participant shall maintain only one active WKC account unless otherwise authorised by WKC.

Participants are responsible for safeguarding their login credentials and must not permit others to compete using their account.

8. Respectful Communication

WKC encourages constructive discussion and respectful interaction.

Participants must not:

  • bully or harass others;
  • use hate speech or discriminatory language;
  • publish defamatory or offensive material;
  • engage in personal attacks;
  • deliberately provoke conflict within the WKC community.

WKC may remove inappropriate content without notice.

9. Reporting Misconduct

Participants who become aware of suspected cheating, fraud or other misconduct are encouraged to report the matter through the official WKC reporting channels.

Reports will be handled confidentially where reasonably practicable and investigated fairly.

Knowingly making false or malicious allegations may itself constitute misconduct.

10. Disciplinary Action

Where this Policy is breached, WKC may take one or more of the following actions, depending on the seriousness of the misconduct:

  • Issue a warning.
  • Cancel scores or competition results.
  • Remove rankings or titles.
  • Withhold certificates, medals or prizes.
  • Suspend participation for a specified period.
  • Permanently terminate a participant's account.
  • Disqualify a participant from current or future competitions.
  • Refer the matter to the appropriate authorities where required by law.

WKC will seek to act fairly, proportionately and consistently when applying disciplinary measures.

11. Appeals

Participants who are subject to disciplinary action may submit an appeal in accordance with the WKC Complaints & Appeals Procedure.

Appeals must be submitted within the time specified by WKC and should include any relevant supporting information.

The decision reached after the completion of the appeals process shall be final.

12. Policy Updates

WKC may amend this Code of Conduct & Fair Play Policy from time to time to reflect changes in its competitions, technology or applicable legal requirements.

The latest version will always be available on the official WKC website.

Continued participation in WKC competitions constitutes acceptance of any revised Policy.

4. Complaints

A complaint is an expression of dissatisfaction regarding any aspect of WKC's services, competitions or administration.

Examples include:

  • Difficulty accessing the WKC Platform.
  • Errors during registration.
  • Technical interruptions.
  • Delays in issuing certificates or prizes.
  • Customer service concerns.
  • Website functionality issues.

Complaints should be submitted through the official WKC contact channels with sufficient information to enable an investigation.

5. Appeals

An appeal is a formal request for WKC to review a decision affecting a participant.

Appeals may relate to:

  • Competition results.
  • Scoring decisions.
  • Ranking calculations.
  • Eligibility determinations.
  • Disqualification.
  • Disciplinary sanctions.
  • Removal of titles or awards.

Appeals should clearly explain why the participant believes the original decision should be reconsidered and include any supporting evidence.

6. Time Limits

To assist a fair and efficient review, complaints and appeals should normally be submitted as soon as reasonably practicable after the relevant event or decision.

WKC reserves the right to decline complaints or appeals submitted after an unreasonable delay where the passage of time would prevent a fair investigation.

Where a specific competition provides a different deadline, that deadline shall apply.

7. Investigation Process

Upon receiving a complaint or appeal, WKC may:

  • acknowledge receipt;
  • review the information provided;
  • request additional information where necessary;
  • examine competition records and system logs;
  • consult relevant officials or technical personnel;
  • consider applicable rules and policies;
  • reach a reasoned decision based on the available evidence.

Where appropriate, participants will be kept informed of the progress of the review.

8. Decisions

Following its review, WKC may:

  • uphold the original decision;
  • modify the decision;
  • correct an administrative error;
  • adjust scores or rankings where appropriate;
  • order a replay or re-run of a competition where justified;
  • overturn a disciplinary sanction;
  • dismiss the complaint or appeal if no breach is established;
  • take any other reasonable action consistent with the integrity of WKC competitions.

Where practicable, decisions will be communicated together with a brief explanation.

9. Final Decisions

Decisions made after completion of the WKC complaints and appeals process shall normally be final.

Nothing in this Procedure limits any legal rights that participants may have under applicable law.

10. Frivolous or Abusive Complaints

Participants are expected to use this Procedure responsibly.

WKC may decline to consider complaints or appeals that are:

  • knowingly false;
  • malicious;
  • repetitive without new evidence;
  • abusive or offensive;
  • intended solely to disrupt WKC operations.

Misuse of this Procedure may itself result in disciplinary action.

11. Confidentiality

WKC will handle complaints and appeals with appropriate confidentiality.

Information will be shared only with those who require access in order to investigate or resolve the matter, or where disclosure is required by law.

12. Policy Review

WKC may revise this Complaints & Appeals Procedure from time to time to reflect improvements in its processes, technological developments or changes in applicable law.
